Aldeburgh
Aldeburgh is a charming and sedate seaside town, which grew from an old medieval fishing and shipbuilding centre. The wide High Street has attractive Georgian shop-fronts. Historic buildings include the Moot Hall (c.1520) and the 15th c. church. With a shingle beach where fishermen still ply their wares, it has remained relatively unchanged for many years. The famous music festival is held in June.
The Moot Hall
The Moot Hall, Aldeburgh´s oldest building dating from the 16th Century. It is still used for town council meetings today & houses the town’s museum.
"Scallop"
"Scallop", by Maggi Hambling, was built by Peggs ironworks of Aldeburgh in memory of Benjamin Britten. It is situated on the beach at the north end of the town.
Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival
The most recent Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival took place between 26th September and 4th October 2009. It was hailed as the biggest and best yet by Festival directors.
The main event at Snape Maltings on 26th & 27th September attracted over 7,500 visitors from all over the UK, and over the 10 days many of the 75 Fringe Events that took place throughout Suffolk were sell-outs.Recognised as one of the country’s leading food events, the Festival was once again a celebration of the amazing abundance, variety and quality of food and drink produced in Suffolk.
